10 reasons to love turf in your school yard

  1. Turf Loves Cooling
Turf is Mother Nature’s most efficient natural air conditioner. The temperature of a healthy lawn area in the middle of summer is 10 degrees celsius less than bare soil, 20 degrees less than asphalt, concrete or pebble mulch and 40 degrees less than synthetic turf.

  2. Turf Loves Lowering Emissions
A building surrounded by turf will negate the need to run air conditioners for as often or as long, which helps reduce the amount of carbon pollutants created by electricity, and will help reduce your school power bill! The average home lawn produces the same cooling effect as 9 tonnes of air conditioning (enough for two houses).

  3. Turf Loves Making Oxygen
Lawn area of just 5m² will provide enough oxygen for one person for an entire day.

  4. Turf Loves The Environment
Turf combats climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions caused by the burning of fossil fuels and a range of other human activity. It acts as a natural sink for carbon dioxide and replenishes soil and improves its quality.

  5. Turf Hates Erosion
Turf also filters runoff water and traps pollutants before they get to Australia’s rivers and streams, destroying natural vegetation and fragile ecosystems.

  6. Turf Loves Exercise
Green open space inspires active bodies and minds. Public access areas of natural turf, promotes healthy communities and helps tackle physical health problems such as obesity. Green space also enhances mental health and human productivity.

  7. Turf Loves Being A Natural Product
Turf is the most ideal surface for recreational activities, and the safest surface for outdoor leisure activities. If cared for turf does not need to be replaced like synthetic turf. Studies have now proven synthetic turf contains unacceptable levels of lead used in the colouring process and are often 10 times the recommended amount.

  8. Turf Loves Being Adaptable
There are five mainstream turf species grown in Australia to suit every environment across our great nation.

  9. Turf Loves Using Less Water
Turf does not need potable water to survive. It will thrive on tank, grey or bore water supplies. Mature turf actually needs less water than mature trees and shrubs!

  10. Turf Loves To Multi-Skill
Turf not only protects houses from bushfires by providing a barrier, but it also reduces noise, is great for green roofs, improves social health and increases the value of homes by up to 20%.
